Ophtec opens site in Tokyo
Press Release
The gates of Japan open to the Dutch Company Ophtec
After recent expansions in Madrid and Johannesburg, Ophtec opens its own site in Tokyo
The Dutch family business Ophtec BV, which produces glasses-replacement lenses and instruments for ophthalmology, continues to conquer the world. After Europe, North America and Africa, it’s the turn of the Far East - on 1 April 2010 the Japanese site of Ophtec became a reality.
“High myopia combined with a thin cornea occurs frequently amongst the Asian population. Our Artisan and Artiflex lenses offer an excellent solution for these types of eyes that are not suitable for eye-laser treatment. The Artisan and Artiflex lenses are inserted in the eye during a short outpatient operation and correct refraction deviations of up to -24 diopters. An excellent solution for the people in this region who are increasingly looking for opportunities to improve their quality of life”, says Ophtec Director Erik-Jan Worst. “Just as our ancestors 400 years ago, we see this as a wonderful challenge to expand our trading activities to this country. With our own Japanese site, staffed with a Japanese crew led by Hiromasa Yamada, we expect our products to take up an important place in the refraction surgery arena of Japan within the next few years.”
Ophtec BV produces patented lenses for glasses-replacement surgery, the Artisan and Artiflex lenses, but also implants for cataract and trauma surgery. Since 2000 Erik-Jan Worst, son of Prof. Dr. Worst, inventor of the Artisan concept, leads the company that has its Head Office and production department in Groningen. Besides the new site in Tokyo, the company also has an office in Florida (USA) that serves the American market, an office in Madrid (Sp), and in Johannesburg (SA). The company has developed a range of unique products during its 25 years of existence and has received “Innovative Business” awards on several occasions.”
