Three new launches OPHTEC
during ESCRS in Barcelona
OPTHEC is to introduce three new lenses during the ESCRS in Barcelona;
In the refractive arena, the Toric ARTIFLEX PIOL is to complete the PIOL portfolio, and there are two aspherical IOLs, the Luna IOL and the QuadrimaX IOL.
After launching the spherical ARTIFLEX lens for myopia in 2005, the market demand for the toric variant of this flexible PIOL soon increased. Due to safety having ultimate precedence at OPHTEC, the introduction took quite some time. The study into the effectiveness and safety of the lens has been completed by now, and the Toric ARTIFLEX is ready to conquer the world; the results of the study are excellent.
The Toric ARTIFLEX PIOL can be used for correction of -1 to -5 cylinders in combination with a spherical correction of -1 to -13.5 dioptre. Part of this range will be available from stock.
All seemed quiet on the OPHTEC cataract front but appearances are deceiving. Behind the scenes, there was plenty of work underway on two new A-spherical IOLs; the Luna and the QuadrimaX.
The Luna is a hydrophobic and the QuadrimaX a hydrophobic acrylic IOL. Both lenses are simple to implant and remain stable and well centred in the bag, which is good for the depth of focus while retaining good contrast sensitivity.
With the introduction of these two new IOLs, OPHTEC is completing its already wide range of IOLs and is meeting its vision that every doctor must be capable of choosing precisely that IOL which he/she believes most suitable for that individual patient.
