This so-called "Iris Enclavation" method:

• allows relatively unrestricted constriction and dilation of the pupil.
• ensures stable fixation to the iris because of the two diametrically opposed haptics.
• permits centration of the lens over the pupil.
• is extremely versatile, as Artisan Lenses may be fixated horizontally, vertically or obliquely.
• prevents pseudo-phakodonesis and the risk of post-operative decentration

Since its invention more than 20 years ago, the fixation principle of Artisan/Artiflex lenses has remained unchanged.

Fluorescein angiographic studies by Strobel and Izák have shown no leakage of the iris vessels at the enclavation sites.
