Intacs
Specifications
IntacsTM are clear, micro-thin prescription inserts placed in the cornea. Intacs reshape the curvature of the cornea from within, working with the natural shape of an eye to correct mild nearsightedness.
Patients should be 21 years of age or older and have a cycloplegic spherical equivalent refraction between -1.00 and -4.50 diopters. The cylindrical correction should be no more than 1 diopter.
Intacs consist of two PMMA segments that are inserted into the mid peripheral stroma, outside the central optical zone, the area most critical for clear vision. The result is flexible correction, designed to be permanent and adjustable. It can be reversed, if desired, upon removal of the product. Intacs can be replaced with a new prescription should one's vision change.
The procedure for Intacs is performed in no more than 30 minutes per eye, in an outpatient setting and under topical anesthesia.
