Artiplus Toric
This milestone marks a significant step in Ophtec’s mission to deliver precise, patient-specific solutions in refractive surgery. Artiplus Toric builds on the trusted iris-fixated design of the Artiplus platform and offers stable centration and long-term positional reliability. Specifically developed for younger patients with presbyopia, the lens provides clear vision at all distances while preserving the eye’s natural anatomy. With the introduction of a toric variant, surgeons can now correct astigmatism with high precision, extending the benefits of the Artiplus concept to a broader and more diverse patient population.
The Artiplus Toric lens is designed for iris fixation: a technique that demands high precision during implantation; that's why Ophtec designed Vacufix. This smart vacuum-assisted system, developed specifically for Ophtec’s iris-fixated IOLs, uses the surgeon’s existing phaco machine to deliver unmatched accuracy in lens positioning and centration.
Vacufix
The Vacufix tip features an integrated aspiration hole that gently captures a fixed and reproducible amount of iris tissue, creating a stable iris bridge. This is especially beneficial for toric lenses, where rotational stability is critical for optimal visual outcomes.
Precizon Go Toric
While Artiplus Toric is designed for younger presbyopic patients, Precizon Go Toric addresses the needs of cataract patients seeking spectacle independence. Precizon Go Toric builds on the proven design of Precizon Go, adding a toric component to correct astigmatism with high precision. Its purely refractive optic features a modified high-order aspheric anterior surface that extends depth of focus and enhances intermediate vision. Thanks to Ophtec’s patented Transitional Conic Toric (TCT) technology, the lens offers excellent rotational stability and tolerance to misalignment, which is essential for consistent visual outcomes in toric IOLs. Patients benefit from a natural visual experience with minimal disturbances such as halos and glare.
These innovations align with a broader shift in refractive surgery, where phakic intraocular lenses are increasingly preferred over laser procedures. As Prof. Dr. Ramin Khoramnia notes: “I’m doing, and that’s a trend in my country, less laser surgery every year and we’re doing more phakic lenses, because the results are so consistent and we have the advantage of reversibility.”
With CE approval now in place, Ophtec looks forward to making these innovative lenses available to clinics across Europe and beyond.
